Flash mob turns heads in Fayetteville

*Dateline: Fayetteville, N.C., October 22, 2012**

Some 38 “Red Hat Ladies” from our region took to the sidewalks of downtown Fayetteville today for a Flash Mob Dance that turned heads and stopped traffic.

The ladies were led by Fay Fleischmann, Queen Mother of The Forever Young Chapter of the Red Hat Society. Fay, age 75, moves like the Energizer Bunny in her social/charitable group’s trademark purple and red apparel — topped by a memorable red hat, of course.

Here’s how today’s event came together: Some months ago, Fay gathered together her fellow Red Hatters and asked Denise Strother, Founder of Pasión, if Denise could design a special red shirt for them. Denise made it happen, and as is the case with all Pasión sales, a portion of net profits benefits local cancer patients with daily needs such as mortgage or rent assistance, utilities, food, medications, transportation and more. Several of the Red Hatters are cancer survivors, so this is a cause close to their hearts.

Enter Sunday Rochelle of Roland’s Dance Studio, who worked with the Red Hatters to create a memorable dance routine for a Flash Mob — all wearing their new red shirts and fancy accompaniments. After about two months of practice, the routine was performed at 1 p.m. today in downtown Fayetteville. They entertained “through the decades” with song and dance selections from a 1920s Charleston to a ‘50s twist, and Michael Jackson’s thriller to a current-day, hip-shaking Wobble Wobble. The Red Hatter performers today range in age from their 50s to 80s. The performance was caught on-tape by Jaiden Frost and Mark Mayr of Vinewood Pictures. Making a cameo appearance was country singer Trae Edwards, whose new CD “I Believed,” will be released this week; part of the CD profits will benefit cancer patients and the Wounded Warrior Project. Trae is the official “Voice of Pasión.”

The Red Hat Flash Mob video is expected to be edited and complete by next week. It will be featured on YouTube, and on social media and websites for Pasión, the Red Hatters, Trae Edwards and Vinewood Pictures. Stay tuned for the “live” date, and please help us make this thing go VIRAL!
